New games

This post is mostly about new games which I just found out are coming out…

  • (PSP) Hakuoki Portable in normal and Limited edition. This is a port of the original game, where the theme is Shinsengumi + vampiresupernatural(?).
  • (PS2) Hakuoki Zuisouroku in normal and Limited edition. A sequel(?) of the original game… I really don’t know what this one is, since I don’t have interest in the Hakuoki series…
  • (PS2) For those who wants to collect both games… Hakuoki Twin Pack.
  • (PS2) Shinsetsu Saiyuuki in normal and Limited edition. A while back there was an anime called Genso Maden Saiyuuki which was based off Journey to The West. This game was based off the same story, except that in this one Genjou Sanzo is female. I like the design for Gyokuryuu (the white dragon(?))…
  • (PS2) Wand of Fortune in normal and Limited edition. This one actually looks interesting, with the magic school setting and all… but again, it’s on PS2 so it’s out of reach for me.

…is there any otome game that doesn’t also come in Limited edition nowadays? Apart from Takuyo games…

On the non-otome side, Steal Princess looks interesting. The Play-Asia product description doesn’t say much about the storyline, but if you go to the official website you can read the story… and I must say, the story description is very amusing. I can try to summarise the story, but it won’t be as amusing as the one on the official website. Reason I include this game here… you’re a female thief-turned-hero who’s sent to rescue a prince 😀 Will be trying to see if I can find this one in the local shops since it’s currently mid-year sale and all… but am not getting my hopes too high; this side of the world seems to be very slow when it comes to new game releases…

Also, JList has managed to stock copies of Ever 17. Considering Hirameki International ceased business and their titles will slowly go out of print (like Yo-Jin-Bo, which is now only available as a download edition), this is a good chance to get Ever 17. It might not be otome and what romance content in it was minimal, but damn if it wasn’t one of the most dazzling storyline I’ve played/read. These two reviews are good samples of what the general public think of Ever 17. Personally, I treasure my copy… I still remember ‘trying’ the game near midnight, just to see what it was like, intending to only play 1-2 hours… and only realised, at 6 in the morning and having finished 1 route, that I completely failed to stop playing and was meant to go to uni in 2 hours…

Just an otome game fan. ...who spends a lot of weekends playing otome games on PC with a Japanese dictionary propped open on her lap.
