Daylight – Legend

This is the Legend which the Departing Night Festival was based on. Translated using translation software and a dictionary… again, translation won’t be the best. Throughout the storyline, there will be pieces of the Legend told to the player. It belongs to the common route; so whoever’s route you’re on you’ll still get the same Legend.

…when the first Morning visited the world, Day and Night uttered their first cry. Day listened to a faraway story, and Night spoke of gentle dreams. The happy times was thought to last forever. The shadow of Day’s toes extended into Night. The shadow bound Day to the ground and could not be taken off. If the shadow didn’t exist, Day could go anywhere. Day would look at the faraway distance and thought about things and places it was yet to see.

…when the first Morning visited the world, Day and Night uttered their first cry. One day while Night was resting, Day cut off the shadow that bound its toes. Day, now free, then set off to faraway lands it had never been able to go to before. Night who was left behind was saddened when it saw Day’s disappearing back. Day never turned around even once…

…Day, now free, then set off to faraway lands it had never been able to go to before. Day never noticed. When cutting off the shadow that connected it to Night, it had mistakenly cut off its own toes as well. The feet that walked then began to rot, and soon Day was unable to walk anymore. Day who could not move anymore then gave birth to children of light in an unknown land, faraway from the cut-off Night. This was the beginning of humans.
The people lived under the bright sky and light, giving birth and raising children. In a short time the place was filled with humans, and they lived off plenty of harvests. However as people grew in number there was not enough land for them. Humans then thought to go to the land of Night which light could not reach. Carrying torches, the people set off into the Night…

…Day never turned around even once. Everyday Night lived in sorrow. Even though the gentle darkness was warm, Night loved Day’s light. One day, Night found the toes of light which Day mistakenly cut off. When Night devoured the toes, it gained eyes which could see the distance, and feet which could go anywhere.
…this was the beginning of Night Dwellers.

Humans then thought to go to the land of Night which light could not reach. The humans at last reached the land of Night, and the Night Dwellers welcomed them. Humans smelled like Day’s light, and the Night Dwellers were very happy. It had been very lonely. However, the humans had brought torches. Humans started driving away the Night, losing the gentle darkness. The Night Dwellers who lived in Night was very sad, and ran away into the remaining darkness. However, the darkness’ dream could not heal the Night Dwellers’ sadness. Seeing far, the Night Dwellers saw the humans who burnt the torch in the land of Night. It could hear the sound of hoe working at night…

The Night Dwellers then went to ask the humans to return to the gentle Day. But the humans did not even try to listen. The humans no longer remembered about Night. The gentle Day was also gone. The Night Dwellers grieved. Then like how it had devoured the toes of light, it started devouring humans. Humans smelled like Day’s light. It was filled with a mysterious feeling, and the Night Dwellers continued to devour humans. It could feel Day’s light when devouring, and it would feel filled with light, and Night was happy.

…it was filled with a mysterious feeling, and the Night Dwellers continued to devour humans. But still there was no Day’s gentleness in humans’ flesh or blood. It could not be satisfied no matter how much it devoured, and the Night Dwellers then began to hunt humans. Within the Night Dwellers the torches was like light, and it punctured something within. It was the torches’ fault that the gentle darkness disappear, and for them to not be able to dream anymore. Even when eating, it would still feel like it was starving. To fulfill that hunger, the Night Dwellers continued to devour nothing and nothing but humans. Humans’ prosperity began to decline. The Night Dwellers who grew heartless began to attack the humans’ land, and by now it could not even see the beautiful dawn or dusk. …one day, the world lost its balance…

…one day, the world lost its balance. The Night Dwellers had finally reached the top of a hill. Among the humans trying to escape, a young man stepped out to face the Night. Night was surprised. In the young man, it could see and feel, the nostalgic, faraway Day’s light. He was the first child born into the light, and was the land’s king. Just like how the Day’s light had been, he promised to always stay by Night’s side. The King was the child of light. All of his children and descendants would be born carrying the light. Whenever the Night Dweller would feel hunger, the child of light would heal it. The Night Dwellers then stopped devouring humans…

That’s not all… The Legend actually has an ending to it, but the last 2-3 paragraphs of the Legend is only revealed when you get the True Ending. As such, I’ll leave it for you to discover the last paragraphs when you play it for yourself… 🙂
